Q: How often should I visit the dentist for teeth cleaning and check-up?

The American Dental Association recommends a minimum of two visits per year (every six months) for an oral examination and professional dental cleaning. Some patients benefit from more frequent visits, your dentist will recommend a schedule that is best suited for your condition.

Q: Do you offer cosmetic dentistry?

Yes, Dr. Lovan is an experienced cosmetic dentist. Whether you wish to make subtle changes to your smile or a dramatic transformation, we offer a range of treatment options to help. Our cosmetic dentistry services include teeth whitening, porcelain veneers and cosmetic bonding.

Q: What is the best way to brush teeth?

Always use a soft bristled brush when brushing teeth to avoid damaging the tooth enamel or gum tissue. Use gentle circular movements or short back and forth strokes. Brush all surfaces including the outer, inner, and chewing surfaces of the teeth. Be sure to brush your teeth for at least two minutes to be most effective.

Q: What can I do about bad breath?

Bad breath is caused by a variety of factors, including the types of food you ingest, periodontal disease, dry mouth, and other causes. Visiting the dentist will help you determine the cause of your bad breath, so that you can take steps to eliminate it.

Regardless of the cause of your bad breath, good oral hygiene and regular checkups to the dentist will help reduce it. Brushing and flossing will eliminate particles of food stuck between your teeth which emit odors. It will also help prevent or treat periodontal disease (gum disease), caused by plaque buildup on your teeth, which can lead to bad breath.

Dentures should be properly cleaned and soaked overnight in antibacterial solution (unless otherwise advised by your dentist). Finally, make sure to brush your tongue regularly to eliminate any residue.

Our Technology

Diagnodent – Early Cavity Detection

Tooth cavities are easiest to treat when they are caught early. Dr. Lovan uses a new laser called Diagnodent for early detection and diagnosis of tooth decay. The laser technology used by Diagnodent makes it easier to find decay hidden in cracks and crevices of teeth. Early intervention of tooth cavities means less pain, decreased risk of tooth damage and less hassle for you down the road.

Intra-Oral Camera

The Intra-Oral camera is a pen like device that is used to take magnified images and video of your teeth and gums. The Intra-Oral camera captures images in real time and displays them on a computer monitor for a heightened visualization of your dental condition. With this technology, you become a true partner in your dental care and your exam becomes an interactive learning and sharing experience.

Waterlase Dental Laser

Dr. Lovan uses the Waterlase dental laser in a number of general dentistry and restorative dental procedures. Dental lasers are safe and extremely effective, particularly for the treatment of gum disease. Treatment using a dental laser is quick, virtually pain-free and highly effective compared to conventional gum surgery.

In addition, dental lasers allow for more comfortable recovery by reducing bacteria in the mouth along with bleeding and swelling. Dental lasers promote healing which minimizes any discomfort associated with traditional surgical dental procedures.

Transillumination is the process of using a concentrated beam of bright light to detect any problems with the teeth. The intense light can reveal cavities located between teeth or under restorations. It is also able to detect cracks in your teeth that are not visible to the naked eye. Transillumination allows us to diagnosis and treat issues when they are small, before they begin to cause pain or significant tooth structure damage.

Panorex CMT Tomographic

The Panorex CMT is a state-of-the-art panoramic and tomographic imaging system. The CMT provides us with cross-sectional views of a patient’s mouth, face and jaw. These images allow for more accurate diagnosis and treatment planning for a variety of procedures including implants, extractions and TMJ.

Electric Handpiece

Patients who are afraid of the dentist are often made more anxious by the sounds of dental drills and other instruments. Dr. Lovan uses an electric hand piece, which is incredibly quiet. The electric hand piece also operates very smoothly, significantly reducing vibration for more comfortable treatment.

The Cavitron ultrasonic cleaner is a state of the art instrument, used by the hygenist, that has proven to be an extremely successful tool in removing tartar from both above and below the gum line for a thorough tooth cleaning.

Instead of scaling your teeth with bulky metal hand scalers, the cavitron ultrasonic cleaner uses oscillating sound waves to gently vibrate the tartar away from your teeth. The Cavitron unit is so gentle that it can even be used to administer deep cleaning and gum therapy, many times without the need for anesthetic.

Having your teeth cleaned with the Cavitron unit is a safe effective and painless alternative to traditional cleaning methods. The Cavitron vibrates at the speed of sound so quickly that you can hardly feel any movement.
